PCW Communications - Quick Results Video Series
The Quick Results video training guides were a line extension for PCW Communications to leverage the PC World brand credibility and facilitate new business PC users. It was the first such series to describe and explain software functions and key concepts in the context of common business tasks
  • Conveyed key underlying concepts in business task context
The primary hurdle for the Quick Results series applied to all video training: computers and VCRs were rarely available in the same space, so procedures explained on the video must be memorized and retained until the user returns to the PC.
The Quick Results series was based on the premise that conveying a few key design concepts and their real-world application would go further in preparing new users for productivity with the software than rote repetition of keystrokes. Thus, the format was conversational with screen shot visuals. The "host" represented the viewer and questioned an expert on the application of the software tool to business problems. The goal of the video was for the viewer to have the conceptual understanding that made the keystroke procedures make sense, and that enabled them to better cope when a step-by-step directions from a manual didn't work as expected.
